Environmental Risk from Organic Residues

چکیده

Soil nutrient imbalance is a global threat to food security and ecosystem sustainability but adding organic residues or constructing anthropogenic soils technosols can optimize it. However, FAO considers not “risk-free”, mainly due their heavy metal content. Despite the fact that applying pruning soil worldwide fertilization practice, its potential risk has been poorly studied. This work characterizes Cu, Zn, Cd, Cr, Ni Pb elemental composition concentration solubility content in almond tree pruning, commercial peat substrate, hay straw, olive pomegranate peel, pine needle, date palm leaf sewage sludge compost vine pruning. Furthermore, we compare legal frameworks governing agricultural substrates each residue. Results show substrate only one among those studied surpasses threshold value for Cr substrates. All met value; hence, application involves minimal toxicity. Moreover, index of metals maximum quantity residue are crucial discerning metal-free plan.

Nitrogen mineralization from organic residues: research opportunities.

Research on nitrogen (N) mineralization from organic residues is important to understand N cycling in soils. Here we review research on factors controlling net N mineralization as well as research on laboratory and field modeling efforts, with the objective of highlighting areas with opportunities for additional research. Among the factors controlling net N mineralization are organic compositio...

Organic Contaminant Residues in Fishes from Nipigon Bay, Lake Superior

Three species of fish, caught at various distances from a kraft pulp ai:d paper mill effluent discharge in Nipigon Bay, were analyzed for organic contaminants. Fishes from all sites contained residues of polychlorinated biphenyls and DDE. Most samples were also contaminated with hexachlorobenzene and several samples contained phthalic acid esters. From sampling sites close to the mill discharge...

Dry Digestion of Organic Residues

Sustainable development closely links to the context of energy. Replacing fossil fuels with sustainably produced biomass or organic residues will not only be a way to cope with the depletion of fossil fuel resources but also to reduce the CO2 emissions into the atmosphere and therefore minimise the risk of global warming. A large variety of methods of biomass energy conversion are available tod...
